In the film “Race: The Power of an Illusion, Episode 1,” microbiologist Pilar Ossorio commented “There’s as much or more diversity and genetic difference within any racial group as there is between people of different racial groups.” Given this and your course readings, how can we understand the relationship between race as a sociological concept and race as a scientific concept? Write a 500-word blog post that explains 1) the evidence provided for Pilar Ossorio’s statement; 2) what your racial identity is and how you usually think of yourself; and 3) how this evidence affects how you think of your own racial identity and race in general.
